Senior Care Assistant

Our client is a private residential care home for the elderly in Walton-On-The Hill. They are looking for a reliable conscientious, caring and enthusiastic Care Team Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Holding or working towards a level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • To undertake Senior Competency Package
  • To have good spoken and written English skills
  • To be physically and mentally able to complete expected duties
  • To be kind, caring and compassionate at all times

ACCOUNTABLE AND REPORTING TO

  • The Registered Owner and Registered Manager

OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To assist in providing a high quality service for residents, families and friends, all other visitors and colleagues
  • To deliver individualised care to residents as directed by each residents’ Person Centred Care Plan (PCCP)
  • To report changes or concerns to Matron or her deputy in her absence

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • To carry out all duties in accordance with the Code of Conduct – Skills for Care/Skills for Health
  • To be the most senior staff member in the absence of the Matron, Deputy Manager and Care Co-ordinator
  • To know how and when to contact management appropriately
  • To challenge poor practice, working effectively as a role model
  • To administer medication as prescribed
  • To assist with the mentoring and training of new and less experienced staff
  • To be pro-active in having an overall knowledge of each shift to ensure the smooth running of the home at all times
  • To work within professional boundaries
  • Protect the residents’ rights
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures and follow the whistle blowing procedure if necessary
  • Assist residents in maintaining their personal hygiene, dressing, undressing and grooming, while promoting independence & choice
  • To work in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Respect the residents’ privacy at all times
  • To complete records as appropriate on each shift including daily care notes, accident forms and hospital transfer forms. To ensure that information is handled in line with the General Data Protection Regulations 2016
  • To check workbooks, ensure all work is carried out and carry over tasks that remain uncompleted
  • Use equipment and aids (e.g. pressure care and manual handling aids) as appropriate and directed in the resident’ PCCPs
  • Assist with serving meals in the dining room or provide trays in residents’ rooms as needed and assist with feeding as needed
  • Assist the activities co-ordinator in empowering residents to participate in activities
  • To maintain a neat, tidy and professional appearance
  • To be punctual and reliable

  • Listen and respond to residents, families, friends, other visitors and colleagues appropriately and in a positive manner
  • To act in a professional manner and be courteous at all times
  • To respect confidentiality and consent

CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT

  • To undertake all compliance training
  • To complete competencies relevant to your job role
  • To participate in additional continual professional development opportunities when appropriate, in order to maintain and develop skills
  • To participate in the appraisal system operated within the company
  • To attend regular, formal supervision sessions every eight weeks
